Chen Clan Ancestral Hall is one of the best-preserved examples of Lingnan architecture in Guangzhou. Built in 1894 during the late Qing dynasty, this 19-bay complex served as a clan academy for the Chen family spanning 72 counties across Guangdong province. Every surface of the hall is covered in intricate wood carvings, brick carvings, stone carvings, pottery figures, paintings, and calligraphy that represent the height of Lingnan craftsmanship. Its magnificent ridge decorations, sculpted eaves, and elaborate stone carvings depict scenes from Chinese opera, mythology, and everyday life. Today the hall houses the Guangdong Folk Art Museum, showcasing an exquisite collection of ivory carving, embroidery, ceramics, paper-cutting, and other traditional Cantonese folk arts that continue to define the regions cultural identity.
