For first-time visitors, the trip often succeeds or fails before the sightseeing starts: payment, mobile data, hotel location, airport transfer, and the first 24 hours matter.
Arrival Flow
A simple order for the first travel day
Before departure
Prepare passport details, hotel address, working phone data, payment apps, and a simple first-day route. Do not leave payment and maps until arrival.
Airport arrival
Keep the first transfer simple. For most clients, hotel first is better than forcing sightseeing after a long flight.
First 24 hours
Confirm payment, messaging, map access, hotel location, meeting point, and the next day transfer plan before adding extra stops.
Route handoff
Once the basics work, the trip can move into business visits, food routes, family pacing, or scenic extensions.
Checklist
What clients should prepare
- Passport and visa / visa-free transit status checked before travel
- Hotel name and address saved in English and Chinese
- Alipay or WeChat Pay prepared before arrival where possible
- International roaming, eSIM, or local SIM plan ready
- Airport pickup, taxi, or metro route selected in advance
- High-speed rail passport requirements understood before booking
- A small amount of cash prepared as backup
- First day kept simple if arriving after a long flight

The setup that reduces friction
Payment
Alipay and WeChat Pay cover most daily payments in mainland China. Cards are not enough for every local situation.
Maps
Prepare a map tool that works for the traveler. Save hotel, station, meeting point, and key Chinese names.
Messaging
Confirm how the client will communicate with guides, drivers, hotels, and local contacts.
Transport
Do not treat airports, rail stations, and borders as minor details. They decide whether the route feels smooth.
