Transport hubs decide whether a South China itinerary feels natural or forced. Start with the Guangdong core, then use Hong Kong, Macau, Guangxi, or later inland branches only when they genuinely improve the route.

Core gateway

Guangzhou Baiyun Airport

Best for Canton Fair, Guangzhou city routes, Foshan/Shunde movement, and the widest practical access into the Pearl River Delta.

Core rail anchor

Guangzhou South Railway Station

The main rail node when the route needs Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Hong Kong, or Guangxi without wasting a flight day.

Business rail hub

Shenzhen North Station

Useful for Shenzhen business routes, electronics districts, and Hong Kong-linked urban planning.

Cross-border rail

Hong Kong West Kowloon

Strong when Hong Kong is a deliberate arrival or finish layer rather than an automatic default.

Bridge and border

Zhuhai / Macau Gateways

Useful for Macau, Zhuhai, coastal pacing, hospitality routes, and bridge-linked transfers on the western side of the delta.

Expansion Gateways

Use these only when the route moves beyond the core

Guangxi extension

Guilin / Nanning

Best for Li River, Yangshuo, terraces, Nanning, and scenic recovery after city-heavy days in the core South China route.

Hunan branch

Changsha / Zhangjiajie access

Use only when Hunan becomes a real second chapter in the route; do not force it into short Guangdong-led trips.

Guizhou branch

Guiyang

Useful when Guizhou is the actual landscape-and-village focus rather than an extra stop attached to another plan.

Fujian branch

Xiamen / Fuzhou / Wuyishan access

Useful when Fujian becomes the eastern coastal branch of the route instead of a random add-on.

Yunnan branch

Kunming

Best when Yunnan becomes a real longer-form extension rather than a symbolic extra city at the end.

Core first

Anchor arrival in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Zhuhai, or Macau before adding inland or eastern branches.

Rail before extra flights

Inside South China, rail often holds the route together better than short-hop flying.

Expansion only when supported

Hunan, Guizhou, Fujian, and Yunnan should enter only when the trip length and purpose can carry a real second chapter.

Border days need buffer

Do not stack border crossings, hotel changes, and important meetings into the same overloaded day.
